Michael is the senior program advisor, sustainability and international liaison at the Royal Canadian Mint. He oversees the Mint’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitment and its role in the international minting community. Previously, he led a team responsible for identifying and executing on short-term strategic initiatives, business challenges and long-term strategies for the Mint. Other roles at the Mint have included responsibility for the Ottawa manufacturing facility as well as the R&D and technical services teams, where he focused efforts on blending solid business practices, teamwork, safety-focused behaviours, and innovative manufacturing processes to develop and deliver customer-centred products. Before joining the Mint, Michael worked for more than 13 years in a variety of roles in the forest products industry, including in environmental affairs, engineering, quality service and operational excellence. Michael is a registered professional engineer and graduate of the chemical engineering program at McGill University and the Master of Engineering program at the University of British Columbia. He is also a graduate of the MBA program at the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa.
I have worked at the Royal Mint since 2009 and was appointed Business Manager of the Currency and Precious Metal Recovery divisions in 2023. I am responsible for the delivery of all the contract and service deliverables in the UK Circulating Coin and Services Contract with His Majesty’s Treasury. I work closely with the Business Development teams in the Precious Metal Recovery division to ensure delivery of a premium account management service to both existing and new customers to improve The Royal Mint’s competitive position.
Dieter Merkle has been with Andritz Schuler Presses since 1975. Currently, he serves as the Director of Global Minting at the Andritz Schuler Group. He has been a board member of Schuler India since 2004 and has held again the position of Chairman since January 2020. Dieter has been an active member of the Mint Directors Association (MDA) Technical Committee and has served as the convenor and chair of the Technical Forum at the World Money Fair since 2004. In 2016, he became the convenor of a Customer Task Force aimed at raising industry awareness and connecting with the customer base. This task force was transferred to the International Mint Industry Association (IMIA) in April 2024. Since 2017, Dieter has represented Andritz Schuler within the International Currency Association, and he has been a board member since May 2017.
Pascal Rencker is the Head of Innovation R&D and International Affairs at the Monnaie de Paris. He is also the President of the Mint Directors Working Group (MDWG) since 2016. His work focuses on international exchange in best practice, market and research studies on technical, environmental and economic topics of the mint industry. Prior to his current role, he was the Industrial Director at the Monnaie de Paris, with operational and strategic responsibility for the end-to-end delivery to customers on four continents, for several years. His background and expertise are in the metal forming industries. He also specialises in global commerce and international sourcing.

With over 15 years of experience in the high-tech software industry, I have honed a versatile background across various functions, including product management, program management, software development management, global channel management, digital marketing, and technical support. This extensive experience has afforded me a profound understanding of the software industry from both a business and technical standpoint. Throughout my career, I have spearheaded key initiatives, bringing new digital products to global markets, fostering the growth of global sales channels, and establishing robust reseller networks. A pivotal focus in recent years has been driving the adoption of Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) and Design Thinking as a catalyst for business transformation.
I have been a member of the mint industry for almost 15 years, having spent 12+ years working as the EGM of Sales, Marketing and Innovation at the Royal Australian Mint. I am now the Executive Director of the Mint Directors Association, working closely with the Board of Directors to build a membership organization to enable industry participants to share knowledge, good practice and case studies for the benefit of all members.
Ben Flint is the founder of Supernormal Systems, a specialist consultancy that designs websites and digital systems for professional services firms across finance, advisory, search, and other high-trust sectors. A fluent Mandarin speaker and a regular judge for innovation awards, specifically Australia's Pause Awards.

Marketing Manager, Commercial Department, Spanish Royal Mint
Ntsopana Mafa is currently an Executive accountable, for information technology strategy, associated risk management and value creation at the South African Mint (SA Mint) company. Before this, he served as the Head of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) at the South African Bank Note Company (SABN). Among of his experiences include that of an IT Executive accountable for IT services provided to both the Generation and the Primary Energy businesses of Eskom.

Tom Froggatt joined the Royal Canadian Mint as Chief Commercial Officer in August 2019, following the merger of the Vice President Marketing and Vice President Sales positions. Prior to joining the Mint, Mr. Froggatt spent five years with car rental giant Hertz Canada as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and also acted as executive marketing consultant for the CEO of Hertz Global Holdings for two years in the United States. He has 12 years of experience at Canada Post Corporation where he held roles leading retail merchandising and store design, retail products and services, and government affairs. Earlier in his career, Mr. Froggatt worked in various senior sales and marketing roles in the consumer packaged goods manufacturing and retail industries. Mr. Froggatt is a graduate of Business Administration – Marketing from Fleming College, Intensive French at McGill University, and the Executive Business Program at Queen's University. Fleming College nominated him for the 2022 Premier's Award in the Business category celebrating outstanding graduates of Ontario Colleges.
Joined the Japan Mint in April 1996 and has since held various positions, mainly in the Business Department and the Production Department, with in charge of production management, technology development, and information systems during the youthful time. In 2000, experienced intern program at the U.S. Mint for six months. Also participated in Technical Committee (IMD-TC) several times. In recent years, served as a manager in the sales business, business planning, general affairs, and human resources sections. Currently, serving as Deputy General Manager of the Business Department in charge of product development.
Joined the Japan Mint in April 1993 and has since held various positions, primarily within the General Affairs Department, with responsibilities in personnel, business planning, and international affairs. Experience includes secondments to the Ministry of Finance, serving in both the Budget Bureau and the Financial Bureau. Also studied in the United States, contributing to a broader outlook. Recent roles include Director of the Overseas Business Division, Director of the Personnel Division, Director of the Mint Museum, and Public Relations Officer. Currently serving as Senior Officer of the General Affairs Department.
Stephan Beyer, is an experienced Quality Manager with over 10 years of expertise in quality management, process management/optimization, and certification according to international standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001. In his current role as Quality Manager at Staatliche Münzen Baden-Württemberg, he is responsible for the strategic development and continuous improvement of the quality management system, as well as ensuring the highest product and process quality. His career began with basic training as a mechanical engineering technician, followed by a degree in business administration and several positions in the automotive and manufacturing industries. There, he quickly established himself as a reliable expert in auditing, supplier development, and error prevention through proactive measures such as FMEA, Poka Yoke, and root cause analysis tools like the 5 Whys method and Ishikawa diagram. Stephan is known for his analytical mindset, solution-oriented approach, and his ability to lead and motivate interdisciplinary teams. His focus lies on sustainable quality assurance, customer satisfaction, and the integration of digital tools to enhance efficiency.
